Wiles+Architects was given the opportunity to work closely with the City of Bridgeport Parks and Recreation and Building Department to design an attractive functioning, cost-effective restroom building, that integrates sustainable design as well as maintenance free materials and fixtures. Wiles+Architects’ design team saw this as an opportunity make a modern improvement to a heavily used public facility in the City of Bridgeport. Our approach for the Newfield Park Comfort Station was to reject the “bunker” restroom model and embraces a more wholistic approach by designing something that the neighborhood can see as an important element of their area. A majority of the staff of Wiles+Architects were born and raised in Bridgeport and felt this project was a great opportunity to make a design the community can be proud of. The design primarily includes a multi-stall women’s and men’s restroom, and a single stall family & ADA restroom. Other aspects of the design include new additional site improvements such as a patio/seating area, and new trees.
