St. Vincent's Special Needs
Aquatic Therapy Center

95 Merritt Blvd., Trumbull, CT 06611

Our initial meetings with the Director and Staff revealed the need for an innovative pool design solution to ensure the safety of the Clients and staff. Meeting that need was achieved by the use of a movable pool bottom floor that allows the physically challenged Clients to be placed on to a pool platform that the staff can then lower to a selected depth avoiding dangerous lifting mechanisms. St. Vincent's was able to build the 2,000 square foot Aquatic Therapy Facility, through a donation from the Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival in 2011, as well as with many generous donations.

In addition to the pool, ther are 3 changing rooms, some of which are equiped with motorized changing tables with hand held shower heads, which allows the staff to rinse Clients comfortably before returning them to other Special Needs.

St. Vincent's Special Needs Classroom Addition

Middlebrook Pre-K

220 Middlebrooks Ave, Trumbull, CT 06611

The Town of Trumbull embraced the commitment to provide educational opportunities for early learning. The PRE-K Coalition Building America’s Future states it best: Research evidence overwhelmingly shows that children’s participation in a high-quality pre-kindergarten program makes a critical difference in their development.  High-quality early learning environments are associated with enhanced child outcomes in the areas of language, vocabulary, early math, and social skills.

Middlebrook addresses the educational needs of a wide variety of educational challenges including model, autistic and special needs children.

The building responded to the exceptional tasks of early education though sensitive and careful selection of all building components. Lighting ballast are remote, air flows slowed to a whisper, no HVAC equipment is located on the roof eliminating building born sound.

The configuration of the plan was purposely designed to introduce way finding building elements and respond to space sensory challenged children. Scale, door, and window height are carefully considered from a small person’s perspective.
